Lady Niners Raise Over $90,000 for Desert Cancer Foundation at Think Pink Golf Tournament
A passionate group of local golfers is making a powerful impact off the course. The Lady Niners, a women’s golf organization, recently presented a check for more than $90,000 to the Desert Cancer Foundation following their annual Think Pink golf tournament held at Palm Valley Country Club.
The fundraiser marked a significant achievement for the group, nearly tripling the amount raised the previous year. General Manager Rod Quintero described the effort as an incredible success, highlighting the dramatic growth from last year’s $35,000 total.
According to Think Pink Chairman Sandy Perlman, the event’s success was rooted in strong community support. Volunteers dedicated their time, energy, and resources to ensure the tournament’s success, demonstrating the power of collective effort.
The funds raised will go directly toward helping cancer patients in the Coachella Valley who struggle to afford treatment. Executive Director Mark Scheibach emphasized the impact of the donation, noting that every dollar raised translates into ten dollars’ worth of care. This means the $90,500 contribution could help provide nearly $1 million in cancer-related services.
For many involved, the cause is deeply personal. Lady Niners President Eileen Ryan shared that her commitment to the foundation is driven by the experiences of family and friends affected by cancer, making the fundraiser especially meaningful.
The event not only showcased the generosity of the local community but also underscored the importance of supporting accessible healthcare. Through their efforts, the Lady Niners continue to make a lasting difference in the lives of those battling cancer.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
