Items Left Behind at Coachella Festival Donated to Help Valley Families
With thousands of people passing through the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival each year, it’s no surprise that many items are left behind in the desert once the music ends.
But instead of going to waste, those items are being put to good use.
Volunteers with the Galilee Center are stepping in after the festival to collect everything from tents and mattresses to clothing and everyday essentials. What might have been discarded is now being transformed into valuable resources for the local community.
Once collected, the items are brought back to the Galilee Center, where they go through a detailed sorting process. Volunteers check the condition of each item before organizing it for resale or direct distribution.
The effort helps extend the life of these goods while supporting low-income families throughout the Coachella Valley. Farm workers in the region also benefit, gaining access to much-needed supplies that might otherwise be out of reach.
For organizers and volunteers, it’s about turning excess into opportunity—making sure the impact of Coachella goes beyond music and into meaningful community support.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
