Coachella Weekend One Deemed Success as Law Enforcement Prepares for Massive Weekend Two Crowd
As the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival heads into its second weekend, law enforcement officials say they are confident and prepared following a successful opening weekend.
Just outside the festival grounds in Indio, officers with the Indio Police Department say their coordinated efforts helped ensure safety for more than 200,000 attendees during Weekend One.
“It’s all hands on deck and great teamwork,” one officer explained, emphasizing the collaboration between multiple agencies working throughout the festival. “We accomplish our goals to keep everyone safe, get them all in timely, and assist those who need assistance.”
According to the department’s crime report, there were 97 arrests during Weekend One—only slightly higher than last year, despite an increase in attendance. Officials say that number reflects both strong enforcement presence and responsible behavior from festivalgoers.
Sergeant Plata noted that planning for an event of this magnitude is a year-round effort. As soon as one festival season ends, preparations for the next begin.
“It’s a combination of our guests doing the right thing and also our staff,” Plata said. “The strong presence of our law enforcement officers and security staff makes a difference.”
Beyond policing, authorities also focused on maintaining traffic flow around the busy festival grounds—another area they say saw major success during the first weekend.
Festival attendees echoed that sense of safety, saying the visible presence of law enforcement helped them feel secure while enjoying the experience.
With Weekend Two just days away, officials say they are ready to build on that success and continue keeping both visitors and the surrounding community safe.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway.
