Palm Desert DUI Saturation Patrol Tonight: Riverside County Sheriffs Targeting Impaired Drivers

Residents and visitors in Palm Desert are being urged to party responsibly this weekend as local law enforcement ramps up its efforts to combat impaired driving. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has announced a DUI saturation patrol specifically targeting the streets of Palm Desert tonight, Friday, April 24.

‎

Deputies will be out in increased numbers starting at 4:00 p.m. and will remain on the road through midnight. Officials state that these targeted operations are strategically based on local crash data, with the primary goal of removing drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs before accidents occur.

‎

The stakes for drivers are high, both for public safety and personal finances. According to department officials, a first-time DUI conviction can cost a driver an average of $13,500 in various fees and penalties. In addition to the financial burden, those caught driving impaired face an immediate suspension of their driver’s license.

‎

With the Coachella Valley currently hosting large crowds for seasonal events, traffic is expected to be heavy. Law enforcement is encouraging anyone planning to consume alcohol to plan ahead by using a ride-sharing service, public transportation, or a designated driver to ensure everyone makes it home safely.
