Leadership Coachella Valley: Applications Opening Soon for Premier Desert Leadership Program
Leadership in the Coachella Valley isn’t something taught from the pages of a textbook; it is experienced up close in the heart of our community. After more than a quarter-century of developing local leaders, applications are set to open soon for the next class of Leadership Coachella Valley (LCV).
As NBC Palm Springs reporter Kai Beach explains, the program brings learning to life through immersive, hands-on experiences. Participants move beyond traditional classroom settings to get a behind-the-scenes look at the region’s infrastructure, from fire station tours to K9 demonstrations with sheriff’s deputies. The goal is to ensure that up-and-coming leaders are well-informed about the specific challenges facing the valley and can become active participants in finding solutions.
“If you’re one of those people who want to give back to the community and make an impact, then this is for you,” Beach noted. The program offers a unique vantage point into the various professions and government functions that keep the desert running, allowing professionals from all walks of life to understand the complex systems in their own backyard.
For those currently in the program, the experience has already proven transformative. Participants describe the networking opportunities and group projects as "invaluable" tools for both professional growth and community service. One current student shared that even for those who grew up in the Coachella Valley, the program reveals a deeper understanding of the region that can only be gained through firsthand exposure.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
