CHP Launches 24-Hour Speeding Crackdown Across California
Drivers across California should expect to see a heavy law enforcement presence as the California Highway Patrol launches a 24-hour maximum enforcement period focused on speeding and other dangerous driving behaviors.
The statewide campaign begins Tuesday morning, with officers deployed in full force to monitor roadways and crack down on violations that commonly lead to crashes. Authorities say speeding remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal collisions.
According to CHP data, more than 110,000 crashes in 2025 were linked to unsafe speeds, resulting in over 400 deaths. Officials stress that while speeding may save drivers only a few minutes, the consequences of a crash can be life-altering.
In addition to speeding, officers will also be watching for impaired driving, distracted driving, and failure to wear seatbelts—factors that significantly increase the risk of injury or death in a collision.
CHP officials emphasize that traffic laws are designed to protect everyone on the road and warn there is no safe time or place to drive at unsafe speeds. Motorists are urged to follow posted limits, stay alert, and prioritize safety to help prevent further tragedies.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
