New Riverside County Election Results Reshape Key Primary Races
New election results released just minutes ago by the Riverside County Registrar of Voters are providing a clearer picture of several closely watched races across the region, with some contests tightening while others remain largely unchanged.
In the race for California's 36th Assembly District, Republican incumbent Jeff Gonzalez continues to lead in Riverside County, capturing 49 percent of the vote. Democratic candidate Ida Obeso-Martinez, a member of the Imperial City Council, and Indio City Council Member Oscar Ortiz are currently tied for second place within Riverside County, each receiving 21 percent of the vote.
While the local numbers show a deadlock for second place, Obeso-Martinez maintains a statewide lead over Ortiz, according to the latest election returns.
Another race drawing significant attention is California's newly redrawn 48th Congressional District. The district was reshaped under Proposition 50, approved by voters last November, with the goal of increasing Democratic representation by making the district approximately 10 percent more Democratic than Republican.
Despite the district's new political makeup, Republican candidate Jim Desmond currently leads the field with 36 percent of the vote. Democrat Marni von Wilpert trails in second place with 19 percent.
Meanwhile, in the nonpartisan race for Riverside County Fourth District Supervisor, incumbent Manuel Perez holds a commanding advantage. Perez has secured 60 percent of the vote, while his challenger, La Quinta City Council Member Steve Sanchez, has received 39 percent.
Election officials say additional vote counts remain outstanding. According to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters, the next batch of election results is scheduled to be released on Thursday, June 4.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
