Power Restored After Major Outage Impacts More Than 15,000 Palm Springs Customers
More than 14,000 customers were left without electricity in Palm Springs Tuesday evening after a major power outage impacted much of the city's southern area.
According to Southern California Edison, the outage began shortly after 6 p.m. and primarily affected customers in South Palm Springs. Crews worked to restore service, with power returning to most customers shortly before 8 p.m.
Utility officials said the outage was caused by an issue at a power substation. No additional details about the specific equipment failure or cause of the disruption were immediately released.
The outage comes just one day after a separate power interruption affected many of the same customers in the area, raising concerns among residents and businesses that have experienced repeated service disruptions.
Southern California Edison is also reminding customers about a planned outage scheduled for Wednesday. The utility says service interruptions are expected between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. as crews perform maintenance and infrastructure work.
Customers impacted by the planned outage are encouraged to prepare ahead of time by charging electronic devices, making arrangements for any medical equipment that relies on electricity, and planning for temporary service interruptions.
Southern California Edison says the maintenance work is intended to improve system reliability and help prevent future outages in the region.
