Actress Who Knew Marilyn Monroe Reflects on Hollywood Icon's Legacy
After a record-breaking number of people dressed as Marilyn Monroe in Palm Springs last weekend, one woman with a personal connection to the Hollywood icon is reflecting on Monroe's lasting legacy.
Renee Taylor, an Emmy Award-winning actress, writer, producer, and director, says she met Monroe while the two attended acting classes together in New York City.
Taylor recalled Monroe as a talented and vulnerable performer who was willing to take risks in front of aspiring actors despite her growing fame.
Known to television audiences for her role as Sylvia Fine on the hit sitcom The Nanny, Taylor said Monroe's dedication to her craft helped shape her own career in entertainment.
She described Monroe as the "epitome of femininity" and praised her performances in films such as The Misfits and Bus Stop.
Taylor also reflected on the challenges Monroe faced throughout her life, including a difficult childhood and a struggle to gain recognition for her acting abilities beyond her status as a cultural icon.
The interview comes as Palm Springs continues celebrating Monroe's influence on the city. Her towering statue remains one of downtown's most recognizable landmarks and a popular attraction for visitors from around the world.
Taylor says Monroe's resilience, talent, and humanity continue to inspire her both professionally and personally decades later.
