Driver Killed in Highway 74 Road Rage Shooting Identified

Authorities have identified the driver who was fatally shot during a road rage incident on Highway 74 earlier this week.

The Riverside County Coroner's Office says 52-year-old Gabriel Rodriguez was pronounced dead at Desert Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Rodriguez, a resident of Midway City, is suspected of initiating an altercation with another driver in a construction zone near South Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.

Investigators say the confrontation escalated as the vehicles traveled up Highway 74. Gunfire was later exchanged between the motorists near the communities of Pinion Pines and Ribbonwood.

Rodriguez suffered fatal injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting. Investigators have also not publicly identified the other driver involved.

The CHP and Riverside County Sheriff's Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
