Coachella Valley Rescue Mission Mobile Shower Program Provides Relief for Homeless Residents

As summer temperatures continue to rise across the Coachella Valley, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is expanding efforts to assist people experiencing homelessness through its mobile shower program.

The mission's mobile shower trailer provides free showers, hygiene supplies and other basic necessities to individuals living on the streets. Services are offered during the first and third weeks of each month, giving participants access to resources that can be difficult to obtain while unhoused.

Mission staff say the program is especially important during the summer, when extreme heat can create additional health and sanitation challenges for vulnerable residents.

“I think it's important that we're out in the community because a lot of people, first of all, they're new,” a mission representative said. “They're new to the valley. A lot of the people that you see here are regulars and they know when we're out here. But when there's new people to the community, when there's people that are new to homelessness and we offer the service and meet people where they're at, they're able to come back to the mission.”

Beyond providing showers and hygiene products, the mobile outreach program serves as a gateway to additional support services. Staff members connect individuals with emergency shelter, transitional housing, recovery programs and other resources available throughout the Coachella Valley.

Mission leaders say meeting people where they are can help build trust and encourage those in need to seek longer-term assistance.

Community members interested in supporting the program can donate directly to the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.
