CAL FIRE Issues Traffic and Containment Update for 2,600-Acre Shore Fire in Moreno Valley
MORENO VALLEY, California — CAL FIRE and the Riverside County Fire Department have released an official operational update regarding the ongoing Shore Fire, which has burned 2,600 acres and is currently 25 percent contained. Fire crews and an All-Hazards Type 3 Incident Management Team are actively working on suppression and containment efforts in the region.
A major traffic advisory has been updated for local motorists, as State Route 60 westbound has officially reopened at the Interstate 10 interchange. While State Route 60 remains open in both directions, transportation and fire officials warn that drivers should anticipate significant delays. Motorists are instructed to remain highly alert for responding firefighters, law enforcement personnel, and heavy earthmoving equipment operating adjacent to the roadway. CAL FIRE is urging the public to reduce travel speeds, exercise extreme caution, and utilize alternate routes whenever possible to ensure safe access for emergency responders. Roadway access and traffic conditions remain fluid and subject to immediate change based on shifting fire behavior and operational necessities.
Residents and commuters in surrounding communities will continue to see visible smoke plumes and occasional interior flare-ups. Authorities emphasized that this visible activity is the result of interior hotspots and isolated pockets of unburned vegetation smoldering well within the established fire perimeter. Firefighters are actively monitoring and dousing these interior hot spots, and officials assure the public that the smoke does not indicate significant fire growth or a breach of containment lines.
Despite the progress on containment and highway reopening, strict evacuation orders and warnings remain firmly in effect for designated areas. Residents are advised to stay informed and maintain a high level of situational awareness as emergency personnel execute containment operations. Up-to-the-minute evacuation boundaries and detailed maps can be accessed through the Protect Genasys platform, and additional official updates are being populated regularly on the CAL FIRE Riverside County digital platforms.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
