32nd Annual Palm Springs International ShortFest Returns
The 32nd annual Palm Springs International ShortFest officially kicked off today, welcoming filmmakers, industry professionals and film enthusiasts from around the world to Palm Springs.
This year's festival features 329 short films representing more than 60 countries, making it one of the largest and most respected short film festivals in North America. The event has long served as a launching pad for emerging filmmakers, with many past participants going on to earn major industry recognition.
Speaking at Festival Theaters in Palm Springs, ShortFest Co-Director of Programming Jesse Knight said the festival is designed to celebrate originality and help audiences discover the next generation of filmmakers.
Knight explained that films are grouped into approximately 50 themed programs, giving attendees the opportunity to experience a wide range of genres, styles and storytelling approaches. He described the festival as a "discovery festival," where audiences can encounter new voices and filmmakers whose careers may continue long after the event concludes.
Festival organizers say one of the unique aspects of ShortFest is the opportunity to see artistic work from filmmakers who are still developing their craft, often resulting in bold and highly personal storytelling.
In addition to showcasing emerging talent, this year's lineup also includes projects featuring familiar faces and established performers, offering something for both casual moviegoers and dedicated film fans.
The festival runs throughout the week in Palm Springs. Attendees can purchase individual screening tickets or festival passes for access to multiple programs and events.
Organizers encourage first-time attendees to come with an open mind and explore the diverse collection of films from around the world, many of which could represent the next big names in cinema.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away.
