Recall Effort Against Two Coachella Councilmembers Moves Forward
A renewed effort to recall two members of the Coachella City Council is moving forward after city officials completed a legal review of the recall notices. This was announced Tuesday night.
According to the city, the notices targeting Councilmembers Yadira Perez and Denise Delgado have been found to comply with California election requirements. The documents are now being sent to the Riverside County Registrar of Voters for signature verification, marking the next step in the recall process.
The development comes one week after a previous recall effort failed to move forward because it did not meet state election requirements.
Supporters of the recall say their concerns stem from the council members' initial backing of a large-scale data center proposal that drew significant opposition from residents. The proposed project sparked months of public debate over potential environmental impacts, energy use and long-term effects on the community.
Since then, the Coachella City Council has taken steps to address those concerns. Earlier this month, councilmembers approved a 45-day moratorium on data center applications, temporarily halting new proposals while city officials study possible regulations and long-term policy options.
Despite the pause set, recall organizers continue to push forward, arguing that the council members' previous support for the project warrants voter action.
The Riverside County Registrar of Voters will now review the submitted documents before the recall effort can proceed to the signature-gathering phase. Additional steps must be completed before any potential recall election could be scheduled.
City officials have not announced a timeline for when the verification process will be completed.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
