Palm Springs Fire Department Welcomes New Engine with Traditional Push-In Ceremony
The Palm Springs Fire Department welcomed its newest fire engine today with a traditional push-in ceremony at Fire Station 3.
The event, held around 10 a.m., marked the official arrival of the department's newest apparatus as firefighters ceremonially pushed the engine into its bay.
The push-in tradition dates back to the late 1800s when horse-drawn fire equipment was commonly used. After returning from calls, firefighters would unhitch the horses and manually push the apparatus back into the station, creating a tradition that many departments continue to honor today.
Firefighters, department leaders, and community members gathered to celebrate the addition of the new engine, which officials say will help enhance emergency response capabilities and support the department's ongoing mission of protecting residents and visitors.
The newest apparatus represents an investment in modern firefighting equipment and public safety resources for the growing community.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
