Just 24 hours after an NBC Palm Springs broadcast featuring adoptable rescue puppies Gremlin and Goblin, a prominent local leader stepped forward to give one of the dogs a permanent home.
Coachella Mayor Frank Figueroa made a surprise visit to the Animal Samaritans facility, revealing he had completely fallen in love with the little puppy while watching the broadcast. Figueroa finalized the official adoption paperwork, welcoming Gremlin as his new best friend and bringing her home to the city of Coachella.
Shelter administrators emphasized that the high-profile adoption serves as a powerful reminder of how simple public exposure can create life-changing connections for vulnerable animals. Shayla has been living inside a shelter kennel since August 2025—marking nearly a full year spent waiting behind bars. Volunteer handlers describe her as a gentle soul who can be slightly reserved and shy during initial introductions, but quickly blossoms into an incredibly sweet and affectionate companion once she feels safe.
