One Dead, One Seriously Injured in Indio Rollover Crash

One person is dead and another suffered major injuries following a rollover crash in Indio Monday morning.

The crash happened around 8:15 a.m. on Fred Waring Drive near Burr Street, where firefighters arrived to find a vehicle overturned with two people trapped inside.

One victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital with major injuries.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved pending notification of family members.

As investigators work to determine what led up to the crash, the Indio Police Department has closed westbound Fred Waring Drive between Madison Street and Burr Street.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes while the investigation remains underway.
