Palm Springs Parks Are Getting Their Fall Glow-Up
Palm Springs is getting ready for its yearly park tune-up. The city's Parks and Recreation Department has released its 2026 schedule for turf maintenance, with grass areas across a dozen neighborhood parks set to close in waves starting later this month.
The work means reseeding and irrigating the grass so it can grow back healthy, something the city does every year to keep its parks in shape for the community. While the turf is closed off, though, everything else, including playgrounds, trails, and other public facilities, stays open, so families can still show up for a picnic or let the kids run around, they just won't be able to walk on the grass itself.
Here's when each park closes and reopens:
Demuth Park: closes September 20, reopens November 3
Frances Stevens Park: closes September 21, reopens November 4
Sunrise Park: closes September 21, reopens October 29
Palm Springs Stadium: closes September 22, reopens October 30
Downtown Park: closes September 28, reopens October 30
Wellness Park: closes October 1, reopens November 6
Desert Highland Park: closes October 5, reopens November 9
David H. Ready Dog Park: closes October 5, reopens December 23
Baristo Park: closes October 12, reopens November 13
Ruth Hardy Park: closes October 12, reopens November 20
Cerritos Field: closes October 19, reopens November 30
Victoria Park: closes November 3, reopens December 8
The city is asking residents to respect posted closure signs and stay out of fenced turf areas while the work is underway, so the grass has a chance to take root without foot traffic wearing it down.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
