One dead, two injured after explosion destroys Twentynine Palms home

One woman was killed and two men were injured after an explosion ripped through a Twentynine Palms home Friday night, authorities said.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera captured the moment the blast tore through the home on Ocotillo Road.

Tyler Frailey, who lives nearby, said he heard the explosion while he was at an AutoZone store across the street. When he stepped outside and saw the flames, he said he immediately went to help.

The home was quickly engulfed in flames, leaving little time for neighbors to react.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies and fire crews responded to the residence at about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby homes, but authorities said one woman inside the residence died at the scene. Two men who lived at the home were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The explosion also rattled the surrounding neighborhood, with residents rushing outside after hearing the blast and seeing flames.

By daylight, the extent of the damage was visible, with much of the home destroyed.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Arson and Bomb Detail is investigating the cause of the explosion.

Authorities have not released additional information about what may have caused the blast.
