Riverside County Gas Prices Dip, But Drivers Still Paying More Than a Year Ago

Gas prices have dipped slightly, offering a small break for drivers, but filling up remains a significant expense for many families.

In Riverside County, the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is about $5.55. Prices can vary significantly from one gas station to another across the Coachella Valley.

Gas prices are currently about 30 cents lower than they were a month ago. However, they remain roughly 80 cents higher than they were a year ago.

A financial advisor says drivers looking to save money may need to rethink how they commute.

For workers whose employers allow it, working from home can reduce the number of trips to the office and the amount spent on gas. Another option is adjusting schedules to work longer hours over fewer days, when permitted.

Carpooling with coworkers can also help reduce fuel costs. Sharing a commute with two or three other people can mean fewer individual trips and lower expenses for everyone involved.

The financial advisor says saving money at the pump may require changing daily habits and finding smarter ways to manage transportation costs.
