Riverside County Supervisors to Consider $86 Million Rancho Mirage Law Enforcement Contract

Riverside County supervisors are expected to consider an $86 million law enforcement agreement with Rancho Mirage tomorrow.

The proposed five-year contract would keep the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in charge of municipal police services in Rancho Mirage through June 2031.

The Rancho Mirage City Council approved the agreement in June. The Sheriff’s Department has provided law enforcement services to the city for decades.

Under the proposed contract, Rancho Mirage would cover all costs associated with the police services, with no obligation for the county’s general fund.

The agreement would provide the equivalent of 16 deputies on duty at all times, along with motorcycle officers, community service officers and supervisors.

Services would include traffic enforcement, criminal investigations and enforcement of state, county and city laws.

If approved by the county Board of Supervisors, the agreement would continue the existing law enforcement partnership between Rancho Mirage and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
