Palm Desert High School, Sacred Heart School Placed on Precautionary Lockdown, Sheriff’s Station Says
UPDATE: This has been lifted as of 2:45 p.m.
Palm Desert High School and nearby Sacred Heart School were placed on a temporary precautionary lockdown Friday amid a heavy law enforcement presence in the surrounding area, according to a public safety update posted by the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station on Facebook.
The sheriff’s station said the lockdown was implemented as an abundance of caution while law enforcement investigated an incident in the area of Deep Canyon Road and Moss Rose Lane.
According to the Facebook post, there was a heavy law enforcement presence in the area and members of the public were advised to avoid the vicinity while the investigation was underway.
The precautionary measures affected Palm Desert High School and Sacred Heart School.
The sheriff’s station did not immediately provide additional details about the underlying investigation or indicate whether anyone had been arrested or injured.
The information currently available comes from the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station’s public Facebook update. NBC Palm Springs will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional information as it becomes available.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Firefighters also responded to a palm tree fire in Chino Canyon that officials say was caused by an apparent lightning strike.
