Manny the Movie Guy: Mother’s Day Weekend Box Office Guide 2026
Whether you are looking for bone-crunching action or a family-friendly mystery, the Mother’s Day weekend box office has something for everyone. Reporting from the Midwest for his birthday week, Manny the Movie Guy checked in with NBC Palm Springs to share his "kisses" for the latest releases.
Mortal Kombat 2
Picking up immediately after the 2021 reboot, this sequel finally delivers the tournament fans have been waiting for. Directed by Simon McQuoid, the film is "bigger, older, and more brutal," with a heavy focus on game-accurate Fatalities. While the plot is lean, Manny notes that Karl Urban steals the show as Johnny Cage.
Rating: 2.5 out of 4 Kisses.
Parents Note: Rated R for strong, bloody violence.
The Sheep Detectives
For those looking for a family outing, Manny recommends this witty mystery based on the book Three Bags Full. Hugh Jackman stars as a shepherd whose flock of sheep decides to solve his murder. Featuring an all-star voice cast including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston, Manny describes it as "Knives Out meets Babe."
Rating: 3.5 out of 4 Kisses.
Billie Eilish: Hit Me Hard and Soft - The Tour Live in 3D
Co-directed by James Cameron, this immersive 3D concert experience puts fans front and center for Billie Eilish's latest performance. Manny calls it a "breathtaking visual treat" that captures the intimacy and emotion of the tour in a way traditional concert films cannot.
Rating: 3.5 out of 4 Kisses.
While the Coachella Valley faces triple-digit heat this weekend, the local cinemas offer a 48-degree-style escape for those looking to celebrate Mom with a movie.
