The Heartfelt Story Behind FLAG DAY – Three Oaks, Americana & Taking Back the Flag
🎥 A thoughtful and heartfelt deep dive with husband-and-wife filmmaking team Andrew and Melissa Shea, the directors of the beautiful documentary FLAG DAY.
We explore the soul of small-town America through the lens of Three Oaks, Michigan — home of the nation’s largest Flag Day parade for over 70 years. From building trust with veterans and locals, to capturing raw emotion while staying true to “observation over thesis,” this conversation is full of nostalgia, hope, and powerful messages about unity.
The film celebrates Americana while honestly addressing modern tensions, and reminds us that the flag isn’t Republican or Democratic — it’s for all of us.
Melissa and Andrew also share how the film changed their own relationship with the American flag and why community rituals like this parade matter now more than ever.
FLAG DAY screens at the Mary Pickford is D’Place in Cathedral City on June 14th & 15th (Flag Day weekend)! Also available for free community screenings nationwide.
