Directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Sophia Meloni, Chopped Cheese uses the iconic backdrop of a neighborhood bodega to anchor a poignant coming-of-age story. The narrative centers on a 16-year-old boy, wonderfully played by breakout actor Luca Rickman, who finds himself navigating the awkward, friction-filled threshold between adolescence and manhood.
Manny notes that the script hits incredibly close to home for the director, drawing direct inspiration from Meloni's own brother and the specific sandwich ritual he would partake in with his childhood friends every single summer.
"It really is not about the chopped cheese," Meloni shared. "It's about earning the respect of this guy who you have this parasocial relationship with and doing this ritual that you do every summer with all of your friends—and like, suddenly, it doesn't feel the same anymore."
A True Family Production
Meloni kept the independent production entirely in the family, creating a unique dynamic on set:
The Star: Her father, world-renowned Law & Order actor Christopher Meloni, stars in the film. Sophia joked that directing her famous dad wasn't nearly as difficult as she initially expected.
The Crew: Her mother, artist Sherman Williams, handled the essential task of managing craft services for the cast and crew on set.
Manny points out that while the short beautifully captures a specific, male-centric "bro" energy of teenage New York, Meloni herself was actually surprised by how masculine the final cut felt compared to her own upbringing. Looking ahead, the filmmaker is already brainstorming a female-driven follow-up that explores a young girl's coming-of-age experience in the heart of the city.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him.
