Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash on I-10 Identified
THOUSAND PALMS (CNS) – A 51-year-old man killed when his motorcycle clipped a guardrail and flipped over on Interstate 10 in Thousand Palms was identified Friday as a Santa Ana resident.
Adolph Madrid was fatally injured about 9:30 a.m. Thursday on eastbound I-10, near Monterey Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol. Madrid’s city of residence was not immediately disclosed.
The agency said he was aboard his 2021 Harley-Davidson, among a group of motorcyclists traveling the interstate.
While maneuvering in the fast lane, Madrid’s Harley struck the center median guardrail, causing the bike to overturn, hurling both him and his 49- year-old passenger, a woman whose identity was not disclosed, onto the roadway, according to the CHP.
A 56-year-old man riding a 2012 Harley, with a 46-year-old woman in the rear saddle seat, was immediately behind Madrid’s bike and lost control when the initial crash occurred, causing the victim’s Harley to flip over on the freeway, as well, authorities said.
Madrid was taken to Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, where he died less than an hour later.
His passenger was seriously injured and went to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, where she was undergoing treatment Friday.
The driver of the second Harley suffered major injuries and was also transported to Desert Regional for treatment. His passenger suffered minor injuries but declined to be taken to a hospital, according to the CHP.
All eastbound lanes were briefly closed following the crash. However, the CHP reopened one lane 20 minutes later, with two lanes shut down for an hour while the wreckage was cleared and officers conducted a preliminary investigation.
