San Diego en alerta ante brote de Covid-19 en albergues del condado
El incremento de casos activos de Covid-19 que se vivió en San Diego durante las festividades de fin de año también afectó a algunos de los albergues para personas sin hogar de la ciudad, lo que provocó una movilización la semana pasada para poder aislar a quienes dieron positivo, ya que los albergues funcionan a su capacidad máxima.
Las decenas de contagiados eran residentes de albergues operados por Alpha Project y Father Joe´s Villages, donde se habían quedado en algunas carpas, las cuales operadores han tenido dificultades para poder mantenerlas calientes en medio de esta temporada de frío, donde el condado se ha quedado corto en el número de cuartos de hotel habilitados como refugio.

El condado afirma que el lunes habilitó 40 cuartos de hotel más para atender la creciente demanda por espacios para aislamiento, días después de que se reportaran los 50 casos positivos en los albergues del centro de la ciudad y las carpas de East Village y el Barrio Logan.
Sin embargo, la ciudad y Alpha Project dijeron que hasta el miércoles apenas dos de los residentes de los albergues que habían dado positivo habían sido reubicados a uno de los 137 cuartos de hotel financiados por el condado, donde se aisla a quienes han dado positivo al virus.

Cerca de 40 residentes de albergues se mantienen en aislamiento en ubicaciones improvisadas como parte del periodo de diez días de aislamiento mandatorio para poder regresar a un albergue financiado por la ciudad.
El vocero del condado, Tim McClain, escribió en un correo electrónico que espera que muchos de los infectados cumplan con sus periodos de aislamiento en los albergues improvisados, manteniendo constante comunicación con las autoridades del condado y de la comisión de vivienda, para asegurarse de que quienes están en aislamiento cuenten con un trato digno.
También afirmó que los trabajadores de los albergues de la ciudad han recibido entrenamiento sobre cómo aislar adecuadamente a quienes dan positivo al virus y están actuando de acuerdo a estos protocolos.

Informó que el condado ha contactado a diversos operadores de hoteles para tratar de expandir su oferta de espacios de aislamiento, añadiendo que el alza en el turismo ha hecho que menos hoteles opten por servir como lugares de aislamiento, lo que complica los esfuerzos del condado por añadir más cuartos a su oferta.
Se espera que en estos días estén disponibles los resultados de las pruebas realizadas la semana pasada en los albergues locales, por ahora la ciudad ha dejado de recibir a nuevos residentes mientras intenta controlar el brote y realiza más pruebas.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
