México solicita investigación por la muerte de migrante en custodia del CBP
A través del Consulado General de México en San Diego, el gobierno mexicano se ha pronunciado respecto a incidente ocurrido el pasado 12 de enero, en el que un ciudadano mexicano murió mientras se encontraba bajo custodia de las autoridades migratorias estadounidenses, en un área adyacente de la garita de Otay.
El Consulado ha solicitado a las autoridades locales que se se realice una profunda investigación imparcial y expedita para conocer y establecer los hechos que llevaron a este trágico desenlace y poder fincar responsabilidades.
Además comunicaron que mantienen contacto constante con un equipo legal para que la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores de México pueda determinar las acciones pertinentes para defender al ciudadano mexicano.
A través del Consulado General de México en San Diego, los familiares del difunto tendrán acceso a la asistencia legal y contarán con el apoyo para llenar toda la documentación necesaria para que puedan transportar los restos de regreso a México.
La Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores mexicana lamentó profundamente el fallecimiento del ciudadano mexicano y remarcó la importancia de que las repatriaciones se den de manera segura, digna y ordenada, con estricto apego al marco legal actual.
Una de las prioridades de la Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores es proteger y velar por el bienestar de la comunidad mexicana en el extranjero.
Hay que recordar que el 12 de enero de 2022, aproximadamente a las 3:21 p. m., se notificó al Centro de Comunicaciones de la Policía de San Diego que una persona había muerto bajo la custodia de CBP; y como con cualquier muerte bajo custodia que ocurra en la Ciudad de San Diego, la Unidad de Homicidios de la Policía de San Diego responde para investigar.
Parece que un agente de la Patrulla Fronteriza detuvo a un hombre bajo sospecha de ingresar ilegalmente a los Estados Unidos, posiblemente trepando el muro al oeste del puerto de entrada de Otay Mesa.
El hombre fue detenido sin incidentes ni fuerza y transportado a un área de carga del puerto para su procesamiento. Pero poco tiempo después de llegar al área de carga, el hombre entró en estado crítico. Aunque los agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza, un paramédico de CBP y más tarde personal de Bomberos y Rescate de San Diego llevaron a cabo medidas para salvar la vida del hombre, fue declarado muerto en la escena.
El hombre ha sido identificado, pero su nombre no ha sido revelado en este momento. Solo se le describe como un hombre hispano de 38 años y es ciudadano mexicano.
Hasta el momento se desconoce la causa de la muerte.
El nombre del Agente de la Patrulla Fronteriza que estuvo involucrado en la detención inicial tampoco ha sido revelado, pero se sabe que ha sido empleado de la agencia durante 18 años.
El proceso de investigación y revisión de una muerte bajo custodia es extremadamente minucioso. Cuando la Unidad de Homicidios complete su investigación, será revisada por la Oficina del Fiscal de los Estados Unidos.
