Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., has found its professional foothold in the Coachella Valley with the Coachella Valley Scorpions—the state’s only professional pickleball team. As a member of the National Pickleball League, the Scorpions are making waves both on and off the court. “Being the first professional pickleball team in the Valley is really a benchmark,” says Kim J., co-owner of the Scorpions. “It gives players of all ages something to aspire to while showcasing what pickleball can offer as a sport and lifestyle.” The team has ambitious plans to bring an indoor pickleball facility to the Valley, creating a home for local matches and fostering a professional environment for players and fans. Currently, their games are broadcast in partnership with Agua Caliente Casinos, where pickleball enthusiasts can enjoy matches at 360 Sports bars across all three locations. “We’re thrilled about this partnership,” shared an Agua Caliente representative. “It’s more than just a game—it’s great food, an immersive atmosphere, and entertainment all in one.” The National Pickleball League season runs from May through October, and fans can stay connected by visiting ScorpionsPickleball.com or NationalPickleballLeague.com for schedules and updates. Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities.
