Firebirds’ Season Ends in Pacific Division Finals as BKFC Brings “Knuckle Mania” to Palm Desert
The remarkable playoff run for the Coachella Valley Firebirds came to an end last night in Colorado during the Pacific Division Finals, as the team faced a win-or-go-home scenario against the Eagles.
Colorado came out fast early in the matchup, finding the back of the net with a wicked shot from outside and immediately putting pressure on the Firebirds’ defense. Coachella Valley battled throughout the game and continued to generate opportunities offensively, but the Eagles capitalized at key moments.
Late in the contest, with about 18 minutes remaining, the Firebirds were still within striking distance before Colorado added another goal to help secure the victory and officially eliminate Coachella Valley from the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Despite the disappointment, players and fans alike reflected proudly on what was another successful season for the organization.
“You think about the loss right now a lot and it’s unfortunate,” one player said after the game. “But at the same time, I do think we should be proud. I think it was a good run, that we gave it our all, and a couple of bounces — it’s hockey.”
And proud they should be.
In just the first four seasons of the franchise, the Firebirds have already built an impressive resume — making two Calder Cup Finals appearances, reaching the second round in another season, and now advancing to the Pacific Division Finals with the youngest roster in the entire AHL.
Along the way this postseason, Coachella Valley knocked off the top-seeded Ontario Reign and once again proved why the organization has quickly become one of the league’s premier teams.
For many fans, the future remains incredibly bright, and anticipation is already building for next season.
Meanwhile, combat sports fans in the desert are preparing for another major event at Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert. Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship returns tomorrow night for the second time, with fighters promising an unforgettable night of action.
Several fighters on the card said fans should expect “fireworks” inside the ring.
“If you don’t know by now, you should expect knuckle mania,” one fighter said.
Others described themselves as aggressive, high-pressure competitors ready to entertain the crowd from start to finish.
“You’re not going to find a boring fight with me,” another fighter added. “The fans know me for being exciting.”
The event takes place May 22 at Acrisure Arena, with fights beginning around 6 p.m. Fighters say while every competitor wants the victory, putting on a show for the fans remains their top priority.
For sports fans across the Coachella Valley, it should be another electric night in Palm Desert.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders.
