Team coaches say the roster has grown significantly in size, featuring an array of high-caliber male and female lifters across all age groups, ranging from teenagers to senior citizens.
Among the standout competitors representing the valley is Paula Brunson, a dedicated lifter who turned to powerlifting to stay active after the passing of her husband. Brunson, who currently holds multiple world records and plans to break them at the upcoming national meet, credits the sport for keeping her both healthy and happy. She noted that heavy lifting has successfully lowered her blood pressure, built her physical strength, and provided her with far more daily energy. The national championship tournament officially begins this coming Tuesday in Anaheim.
