El Camino Strength Lifters Shatter Records at National Competition
The athletes of El Camino Strength proved that age is just a number after turning in a remarkable performance at a major powerlifting competition in Anaheim.
A few weeks ago, NBC Palm Springs highlighted the local gym's journey to the prestigious event, which featured some of the top lifters in the nation. Competitors ranged from teenagers to athletes nearing 80 years old, and El Camino Strength made sure its presence was felt on the national stage.
Leading the way was 77-year-old Paula Bronson, who delivered a historic performance. Bronson took first place in her division and broke the national squat record in the 75-to-79-year-old age group with a lift of 138 pounds. She wasn't finished there, also establishing a new national record in the deadlift.
On the opposite end of the age spectrum, 16-year-old Mackenzie Johnson showcased the future of the sport. Johnson earned a second-place finish while breaking both the state squat record and the state bench press record in her division.
The outstanding results highlighted the strength, dedication, and hard work of El Camino Strength's athletes and coaching staff. From record-setting veterans to rising young stars, the team demonstrated excellence across generations and brought home achievements that will be remembered for years to come.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
