Team USA Takes Halftime Lead as Desert Fans Rally at Cathedral City Watch Party
The excitement was building at Agua Caliente Casino Cathedral City's 360 Sports Bar as soccer fans gathered to cheer on Team USA in its FIFA World Cup matchup against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Reporting live for NBC Palm Springs Sports, Brett Rosen described an electric atmosphere as supporters packed into the watch party. Their enthusiasm only grew after Team USA broke through late in the first half, scoring a crucial goal to take a 1-0 lead into halftime after an evenly contested opening 45 minutes.
One fan, who arrived an hour early in anticipation of the match, said the nervous moments early in the game quickly disappeared once the United States found the back of the net.
"I wouldn't say worried—just excited," the fan said. "The first 10 minutes were a little scary, but after that first goal, I have no worries whatsoever."
With a confident prediction of a 3-0 final score, fans remained optimistic heading into the second half.
The winner of the match will advance to face Belgium in the Round of 16 on Monday in Seattle, making Tuesday's contest a pivotal step toward continuing the World Cup journey.
Beyond soccer, Rosen also shared exciting news for local sports fans. The WTA Finals will be held at Indian Wells Tennis Garden from November 8-15, bringing one of women's tennis' premier events to the Coachella Valley.
Traditionally hosted in Saudi Arabia, the tournament's move to Indian Wells is expected to provide a significant economic boost to the region. Similar to the annual BNP Paribas Open, local businesses are expected to benefit from increased tourism and visitor spending during the fall event.
