Palm Springs Power Secure Top Seed as Championship Run Continues
The Palm Springs Power are continuing their dominance in desert summer baseball.
The three-time defending summer baseball league champions secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CPCL championship series after sweeping the Inland Valley Legends this past weekend.
While strong pitching and consistent hitting have helped fuel the team’s success, players say another key factor has been their living arrangements away from the field.
Many Power players spend the season living with host families rather than staying in hotels, and they say the support and structure those families provide helps them stay focused and comfortable throughout the season.
“Whenever you put guys up in a hotel or keep them out of a family, it changes kind of how they act,” one player said. “But when you put them in a home and you kind of have people around, it really keeps you grounded and stable.”
Players say the relationships they build with their host families provide daily support and guidance during the long baseball season.
“We’re growing to being men,” another player said. “It’s been 21, 22-year-olds, and having her mold us and give us ground rules about how the house is, it’s really great for us.”
The Power will begin the CPCL championship series on the road this weekend as they continue their pursuit of another title.
Fans can also catch the NBC Palm Springs crew at the ballpark Friday night ahead of the first pitch. The team will be taking part in the festivities, including throwing out the first pitch, joining the broadcast booth, and taking on a 100-hot-dog challenge.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
