The Importance Of A Fast Start On Wednesday For The Firebirds
The Coachella Valley Firebirds will host the Tucson Roadrunners on Wednesday in a Pacific Division battle. A fast start is a big focus for the group.
After dropping five of their last six games, the Firebirds know they need to find their game early — and head coach Derek Laxdal says a fast start will be critical against a talented Tucson team.
The Firebirds have struggled to put together consistent stretches of hockey during their recent slide, making the opening minutes against Tucson especially important.
A strong start could allow Coachella Valley to establish its forecheck, generate offensive pressure and dictate the pace against a Roadrunners team with plenty of veteran experience.
For the Firebirds, Wednesday is an opportunity to turn the page.
Tucson will bring experience and skill into the Coachella Valley, meaning the Firebirds cannot afford to spend the first period trying to find their legs.
Coverage begins at 6:30p.m. with Hockey Night Coachella Valley on My Firebirds TV on KPSE. Puck drop at 7 p.m.
