It’s only Monday, but this one might just be the favorite story of the week.
Imagine waking up in Palm Springs, looking out your window, and seeing what looks like a lifeless elephant lying in a yard. Your first thought? “How did an elephant get here... and why is it dead?”
That’s exactly what happened when a concerned resident spotted what looked like a collapsed elephant and quickly called animal control. But when officers arrived, they discovered no need for emergency measures—because the elephant was, in fact, a statue.
Palm Springs police confirmed the decorative sculpture had simply been knocked over by strong winds, creating an unexpectedly dramatic scene. Officials joked that “no tranquilizers were needed” and that “no stampede protocols were activated.”
The image of the toppled elephant quickly made the rounds, leaving locals amused and a little relieved. And perhaps it serves as a gentle reminder of just how quirky and windy desert life can be.
As Fred Roggin put it: “Always remember this—love will draw an elephant through a keyhole.”
