In the middle of a blistering heatwave, residents of Parkview Mobile Estates in Palm Springs say they’ve been left in the dark—literally—for nine straight days. With no electricity, more than 300 residents, many of them seniors, have been unable to run air conditioning, store food, or power critical medical equipment.
The mobile home park is managed by White Star Management, which is now reportedly transitioning to the name MGR Management. Despite the severity of the outage, residents say communication has been sparse and solutions insufficient.
NBC Palm Springs’ Fred Roggin spoke with Rick, a resident of the community:
“This is a senior community with 185 homes. Management says they’re working on it, but we get no clear answers. There’s no power and no timetable. It’s been over 100 degrees.”
Rick added that the management company offered up to $250 per day in hotel reimbursements for six days. But with Coachella Festival underway, most hotels and Airbnbs in the area are sold out or double in price—making that option impractical.
The underlying issue? Rick says the underground utility system is over 65 years old and currently undergoing a two-year replacement project. But while residents understand routine failures can happen, the complete lack of urgency and transparency has them fed up.
When Fred Roggin called White Star Management in Rancho Mirage, a woman named Sherry answered and immediately said, “no comment.” Multiple attempts to call again resulted in hang-ups or unrelated businesses answering the phone.
“I asked if this was even a real company. Their motto seems to be: Don’t have electricity? Don’t call us,” Roggin said on air.
This isn’t the first complaint. A White Star-managed property in North Indio—Desert Collection—reportedly had a broken entrance gate for three weeks, raising more concerns about property oversight.
Residents like Rick are just asking for answers—and some action. “We lost hundreds of dollars of food. We have no idea if the electricity will come back tomorrow or next week.”
Fred closed with a challenge to the management:
“We’d love to let them respond. But we already know their answer: No comment. Thanks, Sherry.”
