Desert Town Hall has long been a staple in the Coachella Valley, offering residents the chance to hear from some of the world’s most influential speakers. But it’s not just for adults—the Youth Ambassador Program ensures that local high school students also get a front-row seat to inspiration.
Henry, a sophomore at Palm Desert High School and a member of both the water polo and golf teams, had the unique honor of introducing the first main speaker of the season: Blue Zones founder and longevity researcher Dan Buettner.
“The Youth Desert Town Hall is for the kids,” Henry explained in a recent interview. “All the high schools in the desert come together to hear the speaker, share ideas, and ask questions. It’s a really great opportunity.”
Henry described the surreal feeling of being in the room with global influencers. “Sometimes you just feel lucky to be there,” he said. “You think about everything they’ve done, how far they’ve come—and then you’re there, meeting them face-to-face.”
Dan Buettner’s talk focused on the concept of Blue Zones—places around the world where people commonly live past 100. Henry said the speaker emphasized the importance of lifestyle, diet, and community in promoting long-term health.
“I got to introduce him on stage, which was amazing,” Henry said. “We learned so much about how people live longer, happier lives.”
Despite a packed schedule, Henry is keeping up academically. “I have all A’s right now,” he shared with a smile. “So far, it’s going as planned.”
The future looks bright for this driven teen, and programs like Desert Town Hall are helping to nurture the next generation of leaders—right here in the Valley.
