During a recent meeting, Gonzalez addressed concerns about the district’s $44 million deficit and questioned decisions made behind closed doors. The CVUSD board met in a closed session for nearly two hours but emerged with no updates, leaving employees and community members uncertain about the district’s financial stability. Gonzalez described the silence as shocking, particularly given the urgent need for solutions. "People are wondering if they’ll have jobs come Christmas," said Gonzalez. "The community is demanding answers." Gonzalez highlighted issues with the district’s bidding process, particularly contracts frequently awarded to Desert Concepts, a construction company. He questioned why one contractor consistently wins bids and called for a thorough audit to uncover any improper practices. "People deserve fairness," Gonzalez said. "If the same person wins 100% of the time, something isn’t right." Gonzalez also raised concerns about the intimidation and fear he believes have silenced community voices for decades. "For years, people have been afraid of retaliation," he said. "That ends now. No more bullies allowed in this town." As a Marine Corps veteran, Gonzalez emphasized his commitment to action, promising to investigate further. He plans to work with the Riverside County Office of Education and, if necessary, request a full audit of CVUSD’s finances. "The community deserves accountability and integrity," Gonzalez said. "If you’re doing the right thing, you have a friend in me. If not, stand by." The assemblyman urged the public to share concerns, emphasizing the need for collective action to hold the district accountable. Gonzalez, who officially begins his term next week, vowed to bring change and transparency to CVUSD.
