There’s a new update in the Mama Gina’s health inspection story—and it’s good news for fans of the popular restaurant. The now-infamous claim that a squirt bottle of dog urine was found on the premises has officially been removed from the inspection report.
According to updated paperwork, the item never existed. The Desert Sun has corrected its earlier report that referenced the error, and Olivia from Mama Gina’s says the remaining violations are being addressed.
On social media, support for Mama Gina’s was overwhelming. Many on NBC Palm Springs’ Facebook page defended the restaurant, with some suggesting the health inspector should face consequences and others calling the incident an obvious mistake.
One viewer, Linda, wrote, “Young health inspectors need better training—maybe time in a real kitchen would make their reports more accurate.” Another commenter, Susie, was baffled by the whole ordeal, especially since the bottle shown on air wasn’t even from the restaurant. She added, “I have dogs. Several. Show and rescue. Bless Mama Gina’s—they’re the best.”
Glenn, a regular reader of restaurant ratings, shared perhaps the most unforgettable question: “How do you get a dog to urinate in a bottle in the first place?” A question we’re happy to leave unanswered.
While the restaurant did receive a B rating due to other health code issues, Mama Gina’s is actively working to correct those violations and hopes to return to an A rating soon.
