Barbara wrote in with a thoughtful response to our story about seniors struggling to care for shelter pets. She highlighted a Northern California program called Senior Pets for Senior People, where older adults could adopt pets over the age of six at a discounted rate. These older animals are often overlooked in favor of puppies and kittens. The program was described as a win-win—providing companionship for seniors and homes for overlooked pets.
On our segment about the No Secret Police Act, Diane raised an important point we didn’t get to: the growing concern over threats to unmasked police officers and their families. She believes officers should retain the right to wear masks—at least until immigration enforcement policies and risks are better addressed.
Meanwhile, Linda weighed in on Palm Springs’ decision to discourage planting new palm trees, writing: “They’re famous for that friggin’ tree. Now you can’t plant them.”
As ICE raids continue in the region, the Valley’s anxiety is rising. Ron said both Walmart and El Super in Indio were unusually quiet, with shoppers reportedly staying home out of fear. One store worker told him it’s been “very slow.”
Mitzi brought up another local concern—cyclists on Highway 74. She says the lack of designated bike lanes is putting drivers and cyclists at risk, especially on narrow, curving stretches of road where drivers are forced into oncoming traffic or stuck behind bikers moving slowly uphill.
And yes—Mama Gina’s is back in the good graces of the health department. Diane messaged us during the show to share that the restaurant received an A grade during re-inspection, according to the Desert Sun. Patty also chimed in with a lighter note, saying Friday night’s segment on swearing was “hysterical,” and a much-needed laugh after a scorching hot week.
