In a heartwarming gesture that highlights the spirit of community, Cathedral City has chosen to honor longtime residents Diane Gill and Jane Rasko with a street topper bearing their names. The tribute comes following Diane’s recent passing, and it celebrates the incredible impact the couple made in the city over the years.
While these honorary signs are typically reserved for artists, a group of local citizens petitioned the City Council to make an exception—and the council agreed unanimously, acknowledging that Diane and Jane’s contributions extended far beyond any title.
In a surprise celebration at 90-year-old Jane’s home, friends, neighbors, and Council Member Rita Lamb gathered to present her with a framed image of the upcoming street topper. Jane, holding her dog and visibly moved, was surrounded by the community she helped shape.
The toppers will soon be installed near the intersection of Channel and Carroll Street in the Valley Vista neighborhood. Residents and visitors alike will be able to spot the new signage and reflect on the lives and legacies of two women who left a lasting mark on Cathedral City.
Congratulations, Jane—and thank you both for your service and heart.
