This week on The Roggin Report, Fred Roggin dives into stories that connect deeply with the Coachella Valley community — from serious topics to heartwarming ones.
First, Fred tackled a subject every parent faces: "the talk." New studies show puberty is happening earlier, yet many parents feel unprepared to have important conversations about it. Only 31% of parents said they felt confident in passing down what they learned — if they ever got "the talk" at all.
Switching gears, Fred showcased incredible aerial footage of a Desert Hot Springs pursuit, where a minibike rider tried to outrun police across dirt lots — but the drone caught it all. Despite quick maneuvers, the rider was easily tracked and apprehended, proving once again: you can't outrun the sky.
Highlighting community spirit, Fred welcomed back Amaya, a student from Palm Desert High School and Roggin Report community reporter. Amaya shared the USC Minds Club’s Water Bucket Challenge — a new viral effort aiming to destigmatize teen mental health conversations. Inspired by the famous ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, participants douse themselves with ice water, nominate friends, and raise money for Active Minds, a leading nonprofit supporting young adult mental health.
Urgency also filled the show with an important plea from the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. With large dog kennels completely full, the shelter announced its Big Dog Adoption Bonanza. From April 25–27, all large dog adoptions include waived fees, free vaccinations for a year, and six months of dog food, thanks to Lucy Pet Food. Every adoption saves a life.
Finally, Fred wrapped with a feel-good study showing that the bond people have with their dogs rivals the emotional support parents feel toward children. Turns out, that strong connection with your furry companion might be just as important to your well-being as your human relationships — if not more.
