The Desert Cancer Foundation recently benefited from a unique community event: the annual Pink Pickleball tournament organized by Pink Pickleball. Among the participants were local high school seniors, including Amaya D’Souza, who joined the tournament alongside friends to raise money and awareness for the foundation.
The tournament is designed to be competitive yet inclusive, bringing together players of all ages and skill levels. For Amaya and her friend, this meant competing against athletes ranging from collegiate-level players to near-professional pickleball competitors. Despite not advancing far in the bracket, they scored the most points in their round-robin group, highlighting both their determination and the fun spirit of the event.
Beyond the competition, the event demonstrated the power of intergenerational engagement. Younger players had the opportunity to interact with older participants, sharing the court while contributing to a larger cause. Organizers emphasized that the goal was not just winning, but fostering community, raising funds, and supporting those affected by cancer.
Amaya noted that the experience was memorable for the connections made, the camaraderie, and the chance to support a meaningful cause.
