Reliable internet service has become as essential as electricity for many Coachella Valley residents, but one La Quinta viewer says repeated outages are making it increasingly difficult to work, communicate and stay connected.
The concern was discussed on The Roggin Report after a viewer described frequent Spectrum internet outages in a north La Quinta neighborhood with limited cell phone coverage. According to the viewer, when internet service goes down, cell reception drops to just one bar, making it nearly impossible to work from home, browse the internet or make reliable calls.
The conversation also raised questions about whether recent infrastructure work, including signal maintenance near Dune Palms Road and Miles Avenue, could be related to the interruptions. No evidence was presented linking the maintenance to the outages, but the issue has prompted residents to compare their experiences.
Nick Collins of Douglas Elliman Real Estate said he has Spectrum internet and has not experienced any recent service interruptions.
"I have everything through Spectrum," Collins said. "Everything's been crystal clear on my end."
Tammy Bleck, owner of Sherlock Holmes Watch, uses a different internet provider but said she frequently hears complaints from friends who rely on Spectrum.
"I have Verizon for backup," Bleck explained. "It's worth it to me because I never drop service."
The discussion also turned to the confusing world of internet speeds and fiber connections. Collins praised his fiber optic service, while Fred Roggin joked that many customers simply pay for faster internet packages without fully understanding the differences between download speeds, upload speeds or bandwidth.
The conversation highlighted just how dependent many households have become on reliable broadband service for remote work, streaming, education and everyday communication. For neighborhoods where cellular coverage is limited, an internet outage can quickly leave residents disconnected.
