Splash House is back for another weekend in Palm Springs, but this time, safety concerns are following the party.

Last weekend, nine people were injured when bottles were thrown into a crowd. Now, Palm Springs police say Milad Youssef turned himself in after investigators identified him with help from authorities in San Diego.

But with an arrest made, another question is getting plenty of attention: How did a glass bottle get inside Splash House in the first place when glass is prohibited?

That was the issue raised on the Roggin Report as contributors discussed whether the event should increase security this weekend.

Aaron, who said he performed at Splash House in 2023 at the Air Museum, recalled seeing tight security at the event and said even in VIP areas, drinks were being served in plastic cups. He questioned how glass could have made its way into the crowd.

Stephanie said people can be creative when trying to get prohibited items into events, but hoped organizers would learn from what happened and improve security.

Drewvy said Splash House should have at least the same level of security this weekend, and possibly more because of the incident. “Glass and drinking does not mix well,” Drewvy said, particularly at crowded parties.

Paul took a different approach, arguing that responsibility could extend beyond the person accused of throwing the bottles. He said if glass is prohibited, organizers, caterers and bartenders also have a responsibility to make sure it does not enter the environment.

“If there’s no glass allowed, no glass should be on site,” Paul said.

The discussion also turned to who ultimately bears responsibility when something goes wrong. Paul said responsibility could be shared between the person who allegedly carried out the attack and anyone who allowed an unsafe situation to develop.

Drewvy disagreed, saying the person who chose to throw the glass should ultimately be responsible for that decision.

With Splash House returning for another weekend, the arrest may answer one question, but the bigger one remains: Will security be able to keep prohibited glass out of the venue and give festivalgoers confidence that they can enjoy the event safely?
