Fix the Leak Week: Coachella Valley Water District Urges Residents to Save Water and Money
As part of Water Wise Wednesday, the Coachella Valley Water District is highlighting Fix the Leak Week — a national campaign aimed at helping homeowners identify and repair water leaks both inside and outside the home.
Lorraine Garcia, Communications Manager with the Coachella Valley Water District, says even small leaks can lead to significant water waste. A simple dripping faucet or a running toilet may not seem like a big issue, but those small problems can add up quickly.
According to Garcia, a minor leak can waste about 200 gallons of water per day, while larger leaks can waste up to 800 gallons daily. That not only impacts water conservation efforts across the Coachella Valley but can also increase utility bills for homeowners.
Common signs of leaks include dripping faucets, the sound of a running toilet, or worn-out toilet flappers. Garcia encourages residents to regularly check their homes and address any known issues right away.
For those who are not comfortable making repairs themselves, hiring a plumber or a qualified handyman is recommended. To help offset costs, the Coachella Valley Water District offers rebates for upgrading to more water-efficient appliances, including toilets and washing machines. Residents are encouraged to review rebate requirements before applying.
With water conservation remaining a top priority in the desert, Fix the Leak Week serves as a reminder that small fixes can make a big impact.
