Winter Storm Brings Rain, Snow, and Chilly Temps to Coachella Valley
Southern California is experiencing the full impact of a winter storm, bringing cooler-than-normal temperatures, scattered rain, and snow at higher elevations. The low-pressure system, which moved into Riverside County, continues to deliver chilly air and light precipitation across the region.
Yesterday, Palm Springs recorded a high of just 66°F, well below the seasonal norm of 71°F. Today’s high is expected to stay in the low 60s, with overnight lows dipping into the 40s across the Coachella Valley and even reaching the 30s in some areas like Yucca Valley. Winds remain light, under 10 mph, adding to the calm but cold conditions.
Snowfall has been reported above 4,000 feet, with locations like Idyllwild and the tram area seeing accumulations of 1-3 inches. The snow is expected to taper off early tomorrow morning as the winter storm warning expires at 4 a.m. Tuesday.
By midweek, the low-pressure system will move into Arizona, allowing temperatures to slowly rebound. Wednesday and Thursday will bring plenty of sunshine with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. A more noticeable warm-up arrives by the weekend, with highs climbing to the mid-70s on Saturday and even hitting 80°F in the Coachella Valley on Sunday — roughly 10 degrees above normal.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
