Wind Advisory and Snow in the Mountains as Temperatures Cool Down
As we enter the weekend, all eyes are on Jackie and Shadow’s eggs, as “Pip Watch” officially begins on March 1st. Jackie, having endured some cold nights, is still diligently incubating the eggs, and there's hope that one of the three will hatch soon. The previous hatchings of Spirit and Chloe on March 2nd are still fresh in the memory, and with conditions favorable for the hatching process, we remain optimistic.
The excitement doesn’t stop there as tonight brings a celestial event: the planet parade. Seven planets will align in the sky, and Venus is already visible with the help of apps like Sky Guide. If you haven't checked it out yet, it’s a great time to look up and see the spectacle—some planets are visible with the naked eye, though others may require a telescope.
On the weather front, the valley has been enjoying temperatures around 84°F, which is slightly above average for this time of year. This is a welcome change after the highs in the 90s earlier this week. However, things are about to shift with gusty winds expected over the weekend. North Palm Springs could see wind gusts up to 60 mph, and a wind advisory is in effect through Monday. While the desert floor won’t see much of a direct impact, the wind-blown dust could cause issues with air quality, leading to an air quality alert throughout the weekend.
Additionally, while rain will be light for the region, our local mountains are expected to get a dusting of snow. Big Bear and Snow Summit could receive up to three inches of snow, adding a winter touch to the weekend. As we look ahead, temperatures are forecast to cool down into the 60s by Monday.

UPDATE: The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department have confirmed that one person has died and another two were injured after a home explosion on Ocotillo Rd in Twentynine Palms. Security camera video from a nearby neighbor captured the dramatic blast around 8:28 p.m., followed by a fire that brought a massive emergency response from fire and law enforcement agencies across the Morongo Basin. The burning structure has been confirmed as a residence at 6427 Ocotillo Ave. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation and the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Arson/Bomb Detail team is conducting the investigation.
