Winter Storm Brings Rain and Snow to Southern California, More on the Way
Winter has arrived in Southern California, bringing rain and snow to the region. A low-pressure system offshore is pulling moisture into the area, delivering scattered showers today. The Coachella Valley is experiencing light rainfall, with totals expected to reach up to two-tenths of an inch in Palm Springs. Temperatures remain cool, with highs in the low 60s.
The first of two storm systems will move out by tonight, giving way to a brief break on Wednesday. However, a second, stronger system is on track for Thursday, bringing widespread showers and increased moisture. The Coachella Valley could see between two-tenths and four-tenths of an inch of rain, while heavier precipitation is expected west of the valley and in the mountains.
A winter weather advisory is in effect for the San Bernardino Mountains, where snow levels will drop from 7,000 feet to 4,200 feet by Wednesday afternoon. Idylwild is expected to see rain transition into snow, with up to four inches accumulating. At the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, snowfall could reach 10 inches. A winter storm watch is in place from late Wednesday into early Friday.
Additionally, a flood watch has been issued for the mountains and the Inland Empire, where runoff from heavy rain could cause localized flooding. Winds will remain calm today but will strengthen late Wednesday into Thursday, particularly in wind-prone areas.
Looking ahead, temperatures will stay in the low 60s through Thursday before conditions begin to clear on Friday. By Saturday, the region will warm up again, with highs returning to the 70s.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
